How Does Online Treatment Compare to an In-Person Visit?
Diagnosis of depression and anxiety is made by a qualified clinician by understanding the symptoms that a person experiences. In many cases, no blood tests or physical touch is needed and online diagnosis and treatment is as effective as an in person visit. In fact, many people like online treatment due to ease of access from the comfort of their home. But then, online treatment is not for everyone. (See criteria below)
Does WellMynd Treat All Mental Health Conditions?
WellMynd is available to people 18 years and older who believe they may be experiencing depression or an anxiety disorder (social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic disorder or PTSD).
Remote or online care is not a good fit for people with certain conditions or situations.
- Previous suicide attempt or active suicide planning
- Frequent hospitalizations due to severe mental health illness
- Unstable domestic situation due to abuse, presence of firearms, illegal drugs, etc.
- Multiple diagnoses at same time (severe depression, substance abuse, borderline personality)
- Lack of an electronic device, stable internet connection or privacy for treatment sessions
Note- We can do an initial assessment to see if you are a good fit for online treatment. Clients under 18 can be seen on a case-by-case basis.
Note that some clients may be a good fit for online psychotherapy but not for online medication management, such as in cases of:
- Previous suicide attempt or active suicide planning
- Schizophrenia or any symptoms of psychosis
- Bipolar Disorder or any symptoms of mania
- Substance Abuse problems
- Pregnant or nursing
- Kidney or liver disease, seizures, or long QT
If any of these describe you, it’s best for you to be seen by a doctor in-person so you can get the care that’s right for you. If you have doubts, we can still do an assessment to see if you are a good fit for online treatment.
What Medications Does WellMynd Prescribe?
Our clinicians can prescribe medications to treat anxiety and depression. We can also prescribe medications for smoking cessation and sleep-related issues. We do not prescribe medications for physical health conditions such as blood pressure, weight loss, cholesterol, etc. We cannot prescribe any pain medications, stimulants or any other medications that are habit-forming.
How Do I Receive My Medications?
WellMynd clinicians will send prescriptions electronically to your preferred pharmacy.
How Can WellMynd Help Me with My Physical Health?
Physical health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, arthritis, low bone density, muscle loss/weakness are affected by a person’s mental health and lifestyle.
Mental health conditions like anxiety and depression can make it hard to give up harmful behaviors such as smoking and decrease motivation to adopt health behaviors such as exercise. We can improve your mental health and guide you regarding healthy behaviors such as proper diet, sleep and exercise.
WellMynd clinicians can help answer questions about your physical health conditions related to their impact, medications, lab work, etc. (see below). Please note that the main impact we have on your physical health is by improving your mental health and helping you adopt healthy behaviors.
Does WellMynd Diagnose and Prescribe Medications for Physical Health Conditions Such As Diabetes and High Cholesterol?
WellMynd only provides online or remote care. We are not able to diagnose physical health conditions listed above. We also cannot order labs or prescribe medications for physical health conditions. Typically, the diagnosis and treatment plan (including medications, if needed) is prescribed by your family physician. We can help when clients need ongoing guidance beyond what they able to obtain from their family physician. We serve to be a resource to answer questions about the diagnosis, treatment plan, medications, etc.
What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle Medicine is a field of medicine that uses lifestyle therapeutic approaches to treat, reverse, and prevent chronic diseases, and therefore improve a person’s overall well-being. Our clinicians can address the harmful behaviors and a person’s mental health with psychotherapy and medications. We can also guide you in building healthier behaviors in regards to diet and nutrition, adequate sleep, regular physical activity or exercise, stress management, and avoiding or quitting use of risky substances such as tobacco (often called smoking cessation).
A person’s overall well-being is affected by their mental and physical health. Your lifestyle is a big part of your well-being, as well. Most chronic conditions such as obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes are affected by overeating, excess sugar, smoking, lack of exercise, etc. Stressors related to jobs, relationships and other life events can affect your mental health, which can also lead to harmful behaviors.
WellMynd is equipped to help improve mental, physical, and lifestyle health, and overall well-being.
